  • Estimated Age: about 450 million years old.
  • Comments: Scale Bar is 0.5 mm.  Dayton Area, Ordovician Silurian Boundary -- teaching materials courtesy of  Jeff Bauer.  Sa element of Phragmodus undatus.  Lateral costae, symmetrically disposed on each side of the cusp.   --  BN1A04M04 and 5 were photographed dry under large microscope using Sony DSC-S70 using lateral illumination.  Image  BN1A04M06 shows effects of progressive whitening by exposure to vaporized ammonium chloride  -- enhancing the appearance of the lateral costa.  An even better result was obtained using blue water color dye with BN1A04M07 (although dye caused some effacement of denticles).
